“But our home feels so cosy, doesn’t it?”
Of course it does. To you. Every photo on the wall, every cushion and every rug tells your story. But a buyer isn’t looking for your story. A buyer is looking for room for their own.
Our moment
When we got our home ready to sell, everything personal went into moving boxes. We swapped our own bed linen for new, for a fresh look. And lots of little things went: the things you stopped noticing long ago, but a buyer sees straight away.
This is what we learned
Staging a home for sale isn’t about making it pretty, it’s about making it neutral. Making it neutral is what makes it appeal.
Neutral isn’t empty, and it isn’t cold. Neutral means light walls, a freshly made white bed, one or two calm accents, and space. That way every buyer can picture their own life in the house.

How you can approach it, room by room
- Take away the personal thingsFamily photos, souvenirs, dreamcatchers, piles of post. Pack it all into boxes: you're moving anyway.
- New bed linenSwap your own bed linen for new, white sets. It feels fresh straight away.
- Choose one accent per roomA lamp, a plant or a single painting. Not everything at once.
- Let the light inCurtains open, windows clean, every lamp on for the photos.
- Clear the little thingsWhat you no longer notice, a buyer does. Look through a buyer's eyes: if it isn't part of the house itself, it can go. Except what's useful and a buyer would use too.
